Summary/Abstract: The present work presents, in a hermeneutical approach from the perspective of the theory of the sacred, the evolution of the poetic imaginary of the Romanian poet Valeriu Ananias. An outstanding personality of the contemporary Romanian culture, exceptional theologian, Metropolitan Bartolomeu Anania stood out, in all the historical periods he went through, through a rare ability to create a literature infused both by the theological dimension and by the values of the common man in search of the sacred. Therefore, his entire poetic creation, summing up a few volumes of poetry, brings together the steps of assuming the condition of the one who wants to access a higher dimension of being, with a lucid consciousness located in the proximity of the divine. All the themes of his poetry preserve the characteristics of the sacred as the great thinkers theorized them (especially in the line of Rudolf Otto). Moreover, in Valeriu Anania's poetry one finds, guessed among the lines, the pleasure of self-writing as an innovative technique, only tangentially associated with the lyrical confession and, rather, close to the technique of self-referentiality as the maskless substantialization of the self in all its sincerity.
