Summary/Abstract: A large number of phraseological equivalents (having different degrees of equivalence) are observed in the idioms containing the component ear/ears in Bulgarian and Japanese. Their equivalence is conditioned by the existence of several common themathic groups. Knowledge of the equivalents and the common thematic groups contributes to accurate understanding and better communication.
