Summary/Abstract: The Banat region has been dramatically changing in the years that followed the fall of communism in Romania. The build rural heritage is rapidly disappearing and the procesus seems irreversible. This article explores a particular area, Crivina de Sus a small village about 200 inhabitants, on the border of the Banat region with Transylvania, in the Făget area, a rich ethnographic Romanian rural area. The village, dating back from the 16th century, was until recently an isolated community surrounded by luxuriant woods. Only about 10-15% of the old houses are preserved and the newly build ones, are over-sized copies of social communist apartments painted in bright colors. The community is unaware of the value of their heritage and local institution seems to have little interest and knowledge in preservin the rural community in planning and preserving the natural and build heritage. Long term planning strategy and public outreach might be a sensible solution, and solutions are needed fast, before all rural heritage will disappear in the Făget area.
