Summary/Abstract: The press’s language is based on different pragmatic procedures to manipulate and misinform the readers; and, as a consequence, achieve the objectives set by the media and its government. A good example of its effectiveness was its use in the “Operation Iraqi Freedom”, considered the first preventive war in history. In this article, we will address the issue of how the United States and its allies, by using: metaphor, numbers game, euphemism, dysphemism, dichotomy and personification, justified the attack to overthrow the Iraqi regime.
