Summary/Abstract: Standing out as one of the first Eastern Europeans to have pulled down the “barriers” of the Great Wall to enter an “ever hiding” country and Nation – China – the enlightened Moldavian scholar Nicolae Spătaru Milescu sets up over the centuries as one the first cultural anthropologists, ethnographers and founders of the Oriental discourse. His two main writings about China and the Far East, Travel Journal to China and The Description of China prove to be nowadays as real as they were when their author wrote them. The present-day China and its inhabitants display an astounding similarity and resemblance to their three centuries old description. This research work tries to prove that the accuracy of the information provided by Nicolae Milescu Spătaru’s two most famous writings is astonishing when considered diachronically and comparatively with the newest published impressions on China of contemporary scholars and travellers to the Far East. Once again, contemporary Romanian Oriental discourse brings forth the wit, wisdom and the “spy” qualities of the first Russian Ambassador and Romanian traveller to the ever well-guarded China.
