Summary/Abstract: The author briefly reviews the scientific and cultural works of one of the great universal spirits, Dimitrie Cantemir. As a result of a thorough critical approach, focused upon some revealing bibliographic aspects (the relations between the thought of the Moldavian-Romanian learned Prince and the cultural, scientific and philosophical context wherein he lived and shaped his system of thought, the broad theological views of Dimitrie Cantemir, his religious altruism/liberalism, his relations with several secret societies, his political attitude towards the Othoman and the Russian Empire, the way his main historical, geographical, cartographical, philosophical and theological writings were received by his readers, the ways his scientific abilities were used as a nationalist political instrument), the European dimension of Cantemir’s personality and varied work, both in his age and nowadays, is revealed.
