Summary/Abstract: The Giant Mountains – a multilingual space on the border of Bohemia – became a popular location for the German as well as Czech poetry in the period of romanticism. This paper tries to review the theses of the Czech literary historian Vladimír Macura about the ne gation of the German culture and about the transference character of the Czech culture in the pre March period on the example of this region and its literary representation. Possibilities of the exchange process between the German and Czech literature as well as strategies of the symbolic appropriation of the multilingual space for the own national cul ture in discourse of the romantic nationalism are among the central questions of the paper.The Giant Mountains – a multilingual space on the border of Bohemia – became a popular location for the German as well as Czech poetry in the period of romanticism.
