COVID-19 as a New Security Determinant in Air Transport

Summary/Abstract: The article examines impact of the coronavirus pandemic on understanding of safety in air transportation. It reviews effects of the new global health situation from the perspective of civil aviation. It presents various forms of institutions’ activity of global, regional and local focus, aimed at managing an unprecedented crisis situation in aviation. In particular, it addresses the issue of a new approach to risk in the operational sphere. It also points to specific, unprecedented preventive and control measures taken by airports and airlines to create an effective barrier against the spread of the virus and to convince travellers that they are securely able to make use of air services.
