Summary/Abstract: The chronicles of the late antiquity contain a story about the family of Picus, legendary ruler of Latium, who precedes the reign of Aeneas, the kings of Alba Longa as well as Romulus and Remus . The article includes some critical remarks about Krzysztof Hilman’s book, which tries to prove the birth of the Picus-Zeus legend in Late Antiquity . The author of this article shows the incredibility of Hilman’s hypothesis about the alleged indirect source (“euhemeristic Italian story”) between the so-called Chronicle of the city of Rome and two other sources: the Alexandrian chronicle and Malalas’ work .
