Summary/Abstract: Knowledge about one’s own origin and family connections was important for noblemen . This distinguished them from other social strata and also defined them as a group . Noblemen usually included genealogical lineage in court registries to prove their nobility . In the 17th century city registry of the Sanok Land one can rarely find noble ge-nealogical lineage . The genealogy of the Topolski family is an exceptional example . This article is an analysis of the genealogical lineage written by Sebastian Topolski in 1646 .
