Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to show the multidimensional character of gender inequalities in access to education in Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The reasons for excluding girls from educational system are related to culture, law, political situation, infrastructural and staff problems and economic issues. Although the main analysis concerns the first decade of 21st century, it is indicated that this is not a new phenomenon. The marginalization of girls’ education has occurred since Pakistan emerged in present borders. The actions which are taken in order to improve the situation and the reasons for which there hasn’t been any significant change are also presented. The study was based on existing researches conducted in different regions of Pakistan and on reports and publications prepared by organizations such as United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund.
