Adult Illiteracy as One of the Factor of Social Exclusion

Summary/Abstract: The above article is concerned with the problem of illiteracy, which can be observed in contemporary societies. The article concentrates on the issue of secondary and functional illiteracy, which means difficulty in understanding and applying written information and graphic representations. Attention should also be drawn to mathematical illiteracy, which makes people unable to do simple calculations, necessary in everyday life, or cultural illiteracy, which concerns various relations between culture and the human nature. This article presents the results of the Author’s research which concerning the level of educational competence of prisoners.
