The Role of the Counties in Provisioning the Military. The Example of Pest County

Summary/Abstract: In the process of getting supplies to the front, the Habsburg military in the eighteenth century relied heavily on the carts and ships of the civilian population residing in the counties. To undertake these tasks, the counties elected commissaries who, however, proved unable to solve the problems concerning the turnout and regular relay of vehicles, as well as to the maintenance of the quality and quantity of the goods to be transported.
