Summary/Abstract: About De Kapellekensbaan of de 1ste illegale roman van Boontje (1953; translated into English as Chapel Road) numerous studies have been published without typifying the novel as a Künstlerroman. The question is whether De Kapellekensbaan contains characteristics to make it a Künstlerroman? There are a number of elements with which the Künstlerroman distinguishes itself from other genres. This is done here based on the theories of Herbert Marcuse and Roberta Seret. Seret speaks in this context of homeland and metaphorical voyage. On the basis of these concepts is determined that De Kapellekensbaan belongs to the genre of Künstlerroman and then follows a characterization of Boon’s
