Data confidentiality - a challenge in the current information environment

Summary/Abstract: Digital data represents the basis of all the activities undertaken by individuals, companies as well as commercial, state and supranational entities. Some of them are officially classified as secret, through mechanisms that are controlled by the democratic parliament, and they are protected accordingly. A single tiny piece of such information, which may appear insignificant to somebody that learns about it, may be the missing piece of a puzzle that can enable someone to predict, anticipate and act in a way that helps them achieve their personal aims. With the advancement of modern technologies, the risks and threats regarding the security of information, such as personal data, are increasing and becoming more varied, both from the users’ perspective, who have personal accounts and want to maintain confidentiality through the use of these technologies, as well as from the perspective of those interested in collecting data for different purposes.
