Summary/Abstract: Throughout history there have been many examples where personnel losses caused by disease and improper medical force protection have affected the outcome of military operations. The concept of MEDINT is not a novelty; it appeared after WW II in Great Britain, by establishing an intelligence medical service. Medical Intelligence is intelligence derived from medical, bio-scientific, epidemiological, environmental and other information related to human or animal health. Being of a specific technical nature, this intelligence requires medical expertise throughout its direction and processing within the intelligence cycle. The responsibility of the MEDINT staff is to provide appropriate scientific and technical expertise, interpretation and support. Such information is an essential component of operational medical planning and should be freely shared among members of the Alliance. The implication of Romanian Army in conflicts rising in specific areas, as well as the logistics problems of medical planning for each zone enforced the establishment of a MEDINT service which must have an important role in the medical and intelligence system.
