Summary/Abstract: Architect Mikhail K. Chekerul Kush, belonged to a family of hereditary nobles and was born in 1865 in the Orgeev (Orhei) district. After graduating from the Kharkov Technological Institute he continued his activities in Kishinev. At first, he worked as an assistant architect in the city government. After some time, he becomes a city architect. During this time, with his participation, quite a lot of large buildings were built in Kishinev, including the public bank, which became one of the most important ones in the service’s record of this architect. As for the bank building, it was built for over seven years. It was designed in monumental forms in the style of classicism with some elements of romanticism. It was decorated with four column porticos of the Corinthian order from the side of the main and side facades. It was distinguished by the integrity of the image and strict proportions, with carefully traced sculptural details. The main entrance was crowned with the figure of the Roman God Mercury, the patron saint of commerce; a few chimeras and three goddesses adorned the building on the side facades. Some buildings, built according to his designs are currently architectural monuments and form the cultural heritage of Moldova. This also refers to the building of the former city bank (now the Organ Hall of the Republic of Moldova), which since its construction has undergone rather significant changes inside and outside due to the restoration works, carried out in 1975–1978, as well as in 2016–2019.
