Cultural Participation of the Studentd from Ukraine in Poland

Summary/Abstract: Almost 40 thousand Ukrainians study in Poland. This is the second largest student group in our country. The main reason for them to study here is to get a diploma but an academic period is also a time of intense cultural participation. In this article I analyze the perception of culture by Ukrainians. What do art and culture mean for them? What they appreciate and what they reject in this sphere. Do they attend high culture events or they prefer popular culture? Finally, what is the difference between cultural participation in Poland and in Ukraine? This article is based on 50 qualitative interviews among Ukrainian students in Warsaw.
