Summary/Abstract: The digital economy is the economy that bases and develops as an effect of new information technologies that have been introduced. Information and communication technologies (ICT) affects people's daily lives. Digitization aims to change the way businesses and customers interact, creating new revenue streams. It has been shown the both positive effects on the economy such as facilitating new jobs, quick access to information, increasing access to education, efficiency, productivity, reducing errors but also negative effects such as the increase in the unemployment by canceling traditional jobs. The digital economy has a positive impact on economic growth, this being confirmed by several studies. This research analyzes the impact of the digital economy on economic growth for a panel dataset comprising of 19 EU countries over 2015-2017 and using statistical and econometric methods. The paper exaines the correlation between digitization and economic growth employing a composite digitization index-IDIGI. The estimates show IDIGI has a significant impact on GDP / capita even after controlloing for labor force, taxation and capital.
