Summary/Abstract: This article aims to show the situation of homeless people in Japan. Particular attention was paid to the causes of homelessness such as debts, disability and bankruptcy of the companies, etc. In this context, the general view on the problem of homelessness has become no less important. For many Japanese people, the loss of a home is a symbol of a lack of adaptation to life in society. This article also addresses the issues of assistance offered by the state as well as by non-governmental organizations. Homelessness in Japan is still a taboo subject, as is evidenced by an attempt to dislodge from the collective consciousness the history of the poorest neighborhoods such as Sanya (in Tokyo).
