Summary/Abstract: The name of Hans Gross is known to all those who deal with criminal law and trial, criminology, forensics, starting from a researcher, judge, prosecutor, policeman, doctoral student and student. Most often there is only association; Hans Gross – “father of modern forensics”, “author of the first forensics textbook” and that’s all. The vast majority of these people will probably not say anything more. Every post-war forensics textbook in Poland mentions this name, but devotes only a few sentences to the person of Hans Gross, without even briefly discussing the profile of this scientist and his work. Therefore, it cannot be said that the figure of this scientist is little known in Poland, we often refer to quotations from his studies. Hans Gross wrote the first forensics textbook, published in 1893. Everyone knows this name, but many people do not know this man’s life and his hard work. Problems he had to solve. The article gives a brief look at this brilliant figure, as these are little known matters. The figure of a great scientist, visionary against the background of his era was presented.
