Summary/Abstract: This paper will heavily be focusing on Somali democracy, as well as, other institutions that are involved with democracy area, Somalia is one of the first countries in Africa that truly applied democracy after they got independence from the colonialism, society went for voting and they elected as the first president of Somalia Aden Abdulle Osman, after serving from 1960-1967, he peacefully transferred the office to the next president Abdirashid Shermarke, after president Abdirashid stayed the office for two years, he was assassinated by one of his own bodyguard, while he was paying official visit the northern region of Las Anod, after his death a peaceful coup d'état by the chief army officer at that time major general Mohamed Siad Barre. On the other hand, we will look the era between 1969 till 1991, this era the country was under military, there were many things happened against human rights, as we all now and many countries the world experience, most the of the dictator states, or the state that were seized with military power, those in the office try their best to control the whole society no matter what it takes, if it using power, putting to jail, executing etc. The other important things we will cover this paper is also the first republic which was between the period of 1969-1964 which mainly focused on the institutional foundations of the country’s democracy, as well as we will look the second republic which was between 1964-1967 which mainly focused on the democratic tribalizing, however there were a time which any governmental institutions worked in Somalia, the civil war as well as the other movements who tried to interfere that situation, and the recent democracy developments happened in Somalia. (Samatar, 2016).
