Summary/Abstract: As a result of declaration of martial law in Ukraine in November and December 2018, the freedom to exercise certain rights guaranteed in the Basic Law was formally limited. This involved primarily restrictions of the freedom of thought and expression, ban on peaceful rallies, meetings, marches, demonstrations, and other mass gatherings, ban on operation of public organizations and the control of the mass media. In general, Article 35 of the Ukrainian Constitution did not include the guarantee to exercise the freedom of conscience and religion in the catalogue of exemptions from the restriction of rights and freedoms imposed due declaration of martial law. Such a regulation undoubtedly restricts the freedom of following and practicing religion as well as conducting religious activities.
