Summary/Abstract: The paper identifies the challenges the translator faced and the choices he made when translating from Serbian into English the novel ХамамБалканија/ Hamam Balkanija written by Vladislav Bajac. The main challenges the translator faced include: the Turkish loan words, culture-specific concepts and the concept of duality incorporated in all the segments of this novel. The goal is to review the translation methods, procedures and strategies used by the translator as his response to these challenges. The conclusion is reached that this translation is,in Gideon Toury’s terms, “adequate (to the source text) or appropriate (to the circumstances of reception)” (Pym 2007: 285).
