Summary/Abstract: The article aims at reflecting on multiple and extremely diverse methods of censorship, regarding specific links between various systems of power and their concrete types of implementing narratives of limiting freedom of expression. The article proposes a broad analysis of the lexical significances of the word ”censorship”, exploring the span between lato sensu and stricto sensu and identifying visible or more hidden representions of interdictions and their iminent contradictions. The semantic relaxation of the word, its frequent use in weak contexts might diminish its powerful meaning and inflict confusions. A lax and too permissive definition contains both conceptual and pragmatical risks. At the same time, the reason we should not accept a restrictive meaning is that it might overshadow more subtle types of censorship.
