Summary/Abstract: The subject of this article is the culture-forming analysis of the role of the Catholic Church in Volhynia, including establishing the relationship between the Catholic Church and the dominating in this area Eastern Orthodox rite, presented on the example of St. Anthony Parish in Korzec. The choice of that parish as the research area was dictated by its typical to that region history, reflecting the fortunes of other Roman Catholic churches in Volhynia. On the basis of the fi eld research and the collected archival materials, the integrating and maintaining the Polish identity role of the Church was primarily observed. The author emphasizes that religious distinctiveness is not synonymous with an exclusion from the local community. The inhabitants of Korzec, which for centuries have been perceived as a multidimensional borderland, are united by the fate of a declining, provincial town, regardless their ethnic or religious affiliations. In this context, neither the lack of stigmatizing behavior is surprising nor participating of the Orthodox Korzec inhabitants in important Catholic ceremonies, treated as the part of the local tradition.
