Summary/Abstract: In this paper the author presents the Map of Dacia, which is part of the historicalsection of the work Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (World Theater) written by Abraham Ortelius(1527-1598), the Dutch cartographer. Ortelius's Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theatre ofthe World) is considered the first true atlas in the modern sense: a collection of uniformmap sheets and sustaining text bound to form a book for which copper printing plateswere specifically engraved. The Ortelius atlas is sometimes referred to as the summary ofsixteenth-century cartography. Many of his atlas's maps were based upon sources that nolonger exist or are extremely rare. Moreover, in 1596, Ortelius added a historical section tohis atlas, which later became an integral part of the atlas.
