Summary/Abstract: This reflection is directed towards critical examination or disclosure of the positive potential of blasphemy for faith in contemporary societies, with a very prominent contextual angle. The referential framework for this consists of four theses of Catholic theologian Thomas Laubach on blasphemy. The fundamental intent of this consideration is to offer a contribution to sensitising the local theological public to differentiated speech on blasphemy so as to make the local or even regional religious communities capable of finally overcoming the “syndrome of vulnerability” or, specifically, almost complete captivity in a neurotic and reactive attitude towards public criticism and not infrequent resorting to speech on blasphemy in order to achieve immunisation against the justified criticism of religious practice from the public sphere, primarily from the sphere of arts, literature and the media.
