Summary/Abstract: Strengthening national values is essential for the Republic of Moldova as a sovereign and independent state. The marking of such national values will allow for stability in these desires. An important factor for the political and social life of this country is the image of Stephen the Great. The image of the Moldavian prince became known by tradition, folklore, literature, by means of mass media, but the most important were the history textbooks, efficient mechanisms in popularizing and strengthening the personality of Stephen the Great. The author aims to follow the reflection of this exceptional personality in the textbooks used in the Republic of Moldova during the years 1990–2013. A special topic is the scarcity of Moldovan textbooks and the presence of Romanian textbooks on the territory of the Republic of Moldova at the beginning of its independence.
