milestones at the entry of digital technologies in the society

Summary/Abstract: Global digitalization is entering in Bulgaria more and more confidently and the long lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated this process. However there is a significant and permanent lag of our country from the average European levels which needs to be compensated timely. The present study analyzes the progress of Bulgaria in the digital transformation process on the basis of the Digital economy and society index in the period 2018-2020, comparing with the EU-28 indicators. On the basis of this the strengths and weaknesses of our country are highlighted and opportunities to accelerate and optimize the digitalization are sought.
