Summary/Abstract: The autonomy of a kindergarten teacher is the fundamental starting point for the development of their professional competencies. It is based on knowledge, and is developed by taking the initiative to research and improve the educational process. It can be achieved only in conditions in which the kindergarten teacher has the support of the institution and the choice of training topics in their professional development, as well as the possibility of choosing a way in which they will carry out activities in their group. In conditions in which the kindergarten teacher has the responsibility to independently make professional decisions, they will be able to adapt the educational process to the needs of the child and include in this process all participants who contribute to child's overall development especially their parents. Everyone benefits from building quality partnerships with parents: children accomplish greater developmental achievements, parents have support in the development of parental competencies, and kindergarten teachers have the opportunity to develop their professional competencies through feedback from parents and children. With aim to research the realization of the autonomy of kindergarten teachers and to assess partnerships with parents, a survey was conducted in which 110 kindergarten teachers participated. The obtained results indicate the existence of professional autonomy when it comes to choice of number and topics for professional development. Kindergarten teachers who develop professionally and actively participate in workshops, as well as exchange knowledge and experiences, think critically about the partnership with parents and think about how to make that relationship better. It is possible to conclude that autonomy and professional development of kindergarten teachers are important factors in creating partnerships with parents.
