Summary/Abstract: The analysis of Sonnet 74, written by Lope de Vega and entitled “Daba sustento a un pajarillo”, focuses on both the structural elements of the genre (the theme, the literary motifs, poetic ideas, and figures of speech) and the connection between this poem and the poet's life. This study reveals the way reality is linked to fiction underlining the most important love affairs of the writer that represent a source of inspiration for his poems of love.
