Summary/Abstract: Concentrated markets of European contemporary economies are both subject to processes of liberalization and opposing actions − aimed at maintaining a dominant position. A good example illustrating these activities is the postal services market in Poland. On the one hand, EU regulations forced competition rules on the market, but on the other, dominant company – Polish Post takes action to keep its market position. Moreover, what is more interesting, some regulations encourage high market concentration. Against this background, an attempt to verify the following hypothesis was taken: the use of exogenous barriers to enter the market has a stronger impact on the maintenance of dominant position on the market than the use of endogenous factors.
