Summary/Abstract: The author reflects in his article on the reasons and diversity of expansion of the different religious movements and sects in the Post-Soviet World. He lists, among the main reasons, mostly the fact that the Russian Orthodox Church was for a long time controlled by the KGB. The orthodox priests could only administer sacraments, they were not allowed to involve in any pastoral care, especially the one of the youth. No one explained neither the principles of their religion, nor the symbolism of the Orthodox Church to the faithful. That was the reason why a large number of sects came to Russia: congregations, religious movements, prophets, miracle-workers, esotericists, healers, bio-energy therapists etc. According to the author all those phenomena met with great interest, also among the intellectuals.
