Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problems of learning the language of nonverbal communication as an important component of the process of learning the language and the formation of intercultural competence. The effectiveness of any communication contacts is determined not only by how well the interlocutor understands the words or other elements of verbal communication, but also by the ability to correctly interpret visual information. Non-verbal communication is the oldest form of human communication, since historically non-verbal means of communication have evolved earlier than language. Experience shows that when learning languages, it is necessary to pay attention to the interpretation of non-verbal means of communication as a basis for understanding foreign language. At present, it has become necessary to create textbooks containing materials and exercises for teaching the interpretation of non-verbal and paraverbal means of communication aimed at the formation of intercultural competence. The role and importance of non-verbal means of communication in the activities of the teacher, identifying the wide possibilities of their use in teaching, the insufficient development of the problem in teaching Russian language methods determine the relevance of the chosen theme.
