Summary/Abstract: Because today's discourse on equality between men and women is a product of feminism and thus also a product of Beauvoir's ideas, it is worthwhile to reconstruct Beauvoir's theses on the subject of gainful employment. In the following, we try to differentiate Beauvoir’s theses concerning task-sharing between men and women on the one hand, and concerning the role of motherhood and self-actualization in labor. What are the consequences for emancipation? The reconstruction is followed by a short own statement regarding the ideal of equality. The central question is: To what extent does the gainful work for Simone de Beauvoir's work “The Other Sex” result in the emancipation of women?
