Violence and Betrayal (The Psychodrama-case of Z. from Kiev)

Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the psychodrama of a severely traumatized young woman. As trainer at the Psychodrama Institute for Europe, the author spent ten years working in Kiev. The group trainings and counseling sessions for people working in helping professions mirrored the numerous traumas of the whole society: early divorce, physical and sexual abuse, ethnical violence, murder, rape, suicide etc. The protagonist of the case suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disease ten years after her rape. With the help of the 'Secure Place' psychodrama technique, the author illustrates how she was able to help the woman in 'replaying' her story. The protected intimacy of the group served as a 'Secure Place' in this case, and constituted the first step of healing.
