Summary/Abstract: Regional policy is implemented by various institutions, on many levels of the organization. Tasks of public principal are always implemented by a strictly specific agent. This means that regional policy is a structure of principal-agent relationship. The purpose of the paper is an attempt to use the Agency Theory for regional policy. This approach makes it possible to assess the impact of institutions on the effectiveness of regional policy. Research problems focus on transactional costs, multilevel governance or information asymmetry. Considerations of regional policy in terms of Agency Theory shall include in the deliberations of the New Institutional Economics (NEI).
