Summary/Abstract: Czechoslovakia was visited by two important western statesmen in 1998: the French President Francois Miterrand (1916–1996) and the German Chancellor Helmut Kohl (1930–2017). While Mitterand’s journey became part of modern history textbooks due to his famous breakfast with the dissidents, hardly anyone knows of Kohl’s two-day stay in Prague. His recent death on 16 June 2017 and the 30th anniversary of his visit are an opportunity to remember this half-forgotten chapter of Central European history.
