Summary/Abstract: Georgi Stoykov Rakovski (1821–1867) is the undisputed leader of the Bulgarian national liberation movement during the decade between the years 1857 and 1867. This magnetic politician and journalist sets the pattern of radical political thinking and action in which the movement for national independence will continue over the next decade between the years 1868 and 1878. The article provides historical evidences for the “presence” of Rakovski – as an idea, a message, an image – in the political initiatives of the Bulgarian emigration until the Liberation from Ottoman rule. The text convincingly shows that in the first years after his death the personality of Georgi Stoykov Rakovski has a strong impact on the ideologies and actions of the national liberation movement leaders. This fact is an important proof of the continuity in the nation's struggle for political sovereignty. It also shows the key role of Georgi Stoykov Rakovski in the overall historical development of Bulgaria.
