Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to offer a review of the most relevant sociological theories of communication for the analysis of business letters. Habermas’ theory of communicative action, Bakhtin’s dialogism and Goffman’s interactional ritual are some of the theories taken into consideration in this approach. The research puts a stress on the idea that each of these theories provides a new perspective for different types of business letter analysis: pragmatic, linguistic, syntactic, lexical, semantic.
