Summary/Abstract: At the turn of 2016 smog in Warsaw and many other cities in Poland reached disturbing levels. For the first time, people could feel the effect of smog on their bodies and could notice effects breathing in contaminated air had on their health. This article presents statistics on the state Warsaw was in compared to other cities based on reports of the Minister of the Environment. In this article, attention has been paid to the access the public has to information on air quality through the media, local governments, and NGOs in Warsaw. A diagnostic survey was conducted in a group of educators attending the conference, entitled “The whole truth about smog” organized by the Warsaw Center for Educational and Social Innovation and Training. The questionnaire examined the ecological awareness of teachers of Warsaw, as representatives of the local community and their role as educators in the strive for sustainability, for example by animating environment-oriented activities. The survey showed that science teachers still need training in this regard, and above all to become aware of the need for lifelong learning.
