Summary/Abstract: From among 172 professors who at the interwar period headed the departments of the John Casimir University, 17 were of peasant origin. The article sheds light on the professional and scholarly career of the professors and describes their social and political activity as well as family life. The analysis revealed that the group we were interested in consisted of people who in most of the analysed areas were typical representatives of the professors’ milieu.
