Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to discuss various aspects of the evaluation of journals. From the library users perspective, these aspects are related to the attractiveness, availability and efficient use of collections, while by the librarians responsible for shaping the library offer the evaluation might be considered as an opportunity to create added value. In the presentation of the issues focused on scientific journals in Polish libraries the priority was referred to the Central Catalogue of Press Titles. The author also describes the involvement of libraries in the creation of central catalogues, databases and platforms meant to facilitate access to the most valuable journal resources. In the context of the evaluation of journals, attention was paid to the importance of subjective assessment and to the readers’ needs and expectations. Against this background, the actions currently applied in the Library of the John Paul II Pontifical University in Cracow were presented.
