Summary/Abstract: The main goal of this article was to present the talks of Prime Minister Piotr Jaroszewicz with striking workers in Łódź. The meeting took place in the evening of 14 February 1971. The Polish People’s Republic authorities hoped that a direct contact would make it possible to end the dangerous confl ict. Prime Minister Jaroszewicz, however, did not achieve the same effect as Edward Gierek in Szczecin and Gdańsk in January 1971. In this situation, the government was forced to withdraw from the December price increase.
