Summary/Abstract: Dispositional optimism of nursing students significantly improves the effectiveness of their education. The aim of this study was to investigate the level of dispositional optimism among nursing students, determine the factors affecting the level of optimism and assessing how the level of optimism affects learning outcomes. The level of dispositional optimism was tested in the 2nd quarter of 2019, using the standardized Life Orientation Test questionnaire, adapted by R. Poprawa and Z. Juczyński. The average value of dispositional optimism among the nursing students studied was 15,18 (SD=3,41). High optimism was presented by 41.2% of respondents, moderate 38.2%, low 20.6%. The average rating (r=0,6953; p=0,000) and students progress in science (r=0,5272; p=0,001) were significantly related to the level of dispositional optimism. Among nursing students in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, most people present a high level of dispositional optimism. A high level of optimism was associated with better grades and improves learning outcomes.
