Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the issue of the crime of blasphemy and insult to God in a wide time horizon, from the beginnings of the spread of Christianity to the middle of the 20th century. In addition to historical developments, it also maps the factual nature of these offenses and their entrenchment in criminal codes. It reflects the relationship between church and state and their mutual intersections in the exercise of judicial power. The article further analyzes the development of criminal law protection of the church. The greatest attention is paid to medieval and modern (Theresian and Josephine) legislation.
