Summary/Abstract: People need to meet basic needs such as food, clean water, shelter and dressing to sustain their lives. One of these needs, dressing, varies in color and form in many countries of the world. Traditional clothing that reflects the countries way of life and cultures includes ethnic, mixed-color, monochrome patterns, and a variety of single or several pieces in form. If we think that the fabric patterns used are a reflection of the character of society, it can be said that our country also has a colorful identity. Kaftans, stone decorated caps and kalpaks, flannel-chintz skirts and shalwar, üçetekleri, bindalları and our traditional clothes that marked the period from the past to the present have always existed. Our traditional fabrics, which have become the symbol of Anatolia, are adorned with various color tones and traditional motifs and collect memories from the past, have become the fashion of the period and have attracted interest for many years. The patterns of our fabrics, which are indispensable of our past with their vibrant colour tone and patterns, are seen in various works of art today. It is known that various fabric patterns are used in art branches such as printing, painting, ceramics. It adds richness in color and shape to ceramic surfaces where fabric patterns are applied in different ways. The contemporary interpretation of traditional motifs and the reflection through ceramics will keep the connection of our past strong and shed light on the future. This article explores the use of traditional fabric patterns on ceramic surfaces by interpreting them in a contemporary way and aims to maintain the tradition and to ensure their access to future generations.
