Summary/Abstract: The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which broke out in Slovakia in March 2020, entailed (among other things) a change in the way interpreting was taught, moving training from the on-campus booths to students’ homes via internet. In other words, traditional training was replaced by distance training. This study compares selected aspects of consecutive interpreting performances among two groups of students – a control group (N = 9, traditional interpreting training) and an experimental group (N = 8, distance interpreting training). While comparing selected formal deficiencies in consecutive interpreting, some differences were observed between the control and experimental groups. The individual formal deficiencies varied between groups and between rounds of recording; on average, less formal deficiencies in several criteria occurred in the experimental group. In almost all rounds of recording, students of the control group appeared to be more confident in their delivery and more satisfied with their own performance, which may be related to the classroom environment in which the research was conducted. In the last round, however, the students of the experimental group were generally more satisfied, which may indicate the progress made in online training. The research thus confirmed that, when adequately planned and implemented, online interpreting training can produce outputs comparable to traditional training.
