Summary/Abstract: The issue of cancer became a research topic for the humanities and social sciences. Its goal is primarily to establish an inventory of research on the cancer history. Far from confining reflection to the medical and biological realms, it includes the political, social and cultural dimensions. This collaboration made it possible to study cancer under very different aspects: representations of the disease from the mid-eighteenth century to the 1950s. The fight against cancer in Algeria is imperative with the same imperative need as in the Metropolis and the other French territories of North Africa. The ravages caused by cancer in Algeria are in fact of the same order as those of which it overwhelms the other Mediterranean countries.
